Want to be part of Canta for 2026? This is your chance to be part of the best student media in Ōtautahi, Christchurch! The positions available for 2026 are:
Managing Editor (20 hours p/w)
- Oversees all Canta student media and platforms (print and digital)
- This role manages and contributes to the production of all CANTA content, in written, video and audio formats, in accordance with the CANTA Managing Editorial Policy and processes.
Print Editor (Approximately 15 hours p/w)
- Second in charge under the Managing Editor.
- Responsible for looking after the Canta feature writers, gathering written content and pre-editing content before it reaches the Managing Editor.
News Editor (Approximately 10 hours p/w)
- Responsible for producing print and digital news content for Canta, about issues relevant to students, and to keep students up to date with local, national and global news from a student lens.
Feature Writers x 3 (Approximately 5 hours p/w)
- Responsible for producing written content for the print magazine and the Canta website.
- Producing a wide range of writing on a variety of topics with student relevance for Canta.
Te Ao Māori Writer (Approximately 5 hours p/w)
- A Māori student studying towards a tertiary qualification in journalism, media, communications or similar.
- The Te Ao Māori Writer is part of the feature writer team, and is responsible for assisting the CANTA Print Editor in the production of written content for CANTA in the magazine and on the Canta website
- Producing a wide range of writing on a variety of topics for Canta from through the Te Ao Māori lens
Designer (Approximately 15 hours p/w)
- Responsible for all Canta design, including the print magazine, online and branding.
Digital Editor (Approximately 10 hours p/w)
- Responsible for the Canta website and uploading content.
- Responsible for setting the direction of Canta’s digital student media, amplifying the reach of print student media stories in the digital space. Works closely with the Audio Editor, News Editor and Video and Digital Creator.
- Responsible for developing and maintaining the Canta social media channels, including Instagram, TikTok and Facebook and Spotify.
Audio Editor (Approximately 5 hours p/w)
- Responsible for running Canta’s RDU show “Canta Banta”, and podcasts on the Canta Spotify.
Video & Digital Creator (Approximately 5 hours p/w)
- Responsible for the production of engaging student media as social media content for Canta.
- This includes the filming and editing of at least 1 video per week about student relevant media during term time and working with the Digital Editor and News Editor.
Print magazine roles are fixed term for 2026 only, with starting dates from the 12th of January 2026.
Digital team roles (Digital Editor, Audio Editor and Video and Digital Creator) are term time for 2026 only, with starting dates from 16th February 2026.
