Advocacy & Welfare Project Lead
Location: University of Canterbury, Christchurch
Employment Type: 6 Month Fixed term

Governed by elected student representatives and guided by an Advisory Board, we employ up to 300 staff to deliver a wide range of services that enhance the student experience.

About the Role
We’re looking for a passionate and strategic individual to lead a comprehensive review of our Advocacy, Welfare, and Wellbeing services. This role also supports the delivery of key welfare initiatives that directly impact student lives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct a full review of UCSA’s Advocacy, Welfare, and Wellbeing services.
- Benchmark service delivery against other NZ and Australian universities.
- Support welfare initiatives including food support, hardship grants, and wellbeing events.
- Track and report on student issues and service trends.
- Collaborate with internal teams and provide feedback to UC on student-related policies.
What We’re Looking For
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Public Policy, Community Development, or a related field.
- Postgraduate qualifications or certifications in wellbeing, project management, or mental health are a plus.
Experience:
- 3–5 years in student services, advocacy, or welfare roles.
- Proven experience in service evaluation and reporting.
- Familiarity with NZ and Australian tertiary education systems.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and event coordination skills.
